A Level Geography Lecturer Application Deadline: 18 May 2026 Department: A Level's Employment Type: Full Time Location: Wigan & Leigh College Compensation: £31,699 - £42,540 / year

Description Geography explains the world. Help students understand it. Full-time (Part-time will be considered)

At Wigan & Leigh College, you'll teach A Level Geography to students preparing for university, employment, or apprenticeships. You'll cover the AQA specification across physical and human topics, build the analytical, evaluative, and fieldwork skills the subject demands, and help students see how geography connects to the world they're walking into.

This role suits someone who treats geography as a way of thinking, not just content to be covered. You'll teach climate, migration, cities, and ecosystems as the connected subjects they are, and you'll help get students into universities and employment, developing their understanding of how the world works

What you'll do Teach A Level Geography to the AQA specification, covering both physical and human topics. Plan and deliver lessons that develop analytical, evaluative, and fieldwork skills. Mark work, give clear feedback, and use assessment results to shape how you teach. Act as a Personal Tutor, supporting students through their course and into their next steps. Contribute to curriculum development, departmental improvement, and recruitment activities including Open Evenings, taster sessions, and school liaison. Keep your subject knowledge current so students are learning geography as it's understood now.

What you'll bring Strong subject knowledge across physical and human geography. A teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent), or willingness to work towards one. We'll support you to get there. Experience teaching post-16, or readiness to develop in that area. Understanding of A Level assessment and exam requirements. The ability to motivate and engage a diverse range of students through a demanding subject. What you're like Curious. You read around your subject and bring what you find into the classroom. Clear. You can explain difficult concepts in ways students can hold onto. Organised. You can stay on top of marking, attendance, and admin. Reflective. You think about what worked, what didn't, and why. Committed to your own development as a teacher. Essentials A degree in Geography or a related subject. GCSEs in English and Maths, or equivalent. Right to work in the UK. You'll need an enhanced DBS check, if you get the job, we'll do this for you. You're committed to safeguarding and inclusion. You can travel across our sites. You're flexible and happy to work beyond standard hours when it's needed to support college. Applicants selected for interview will be notified on 25 May for interview the following week.

Why work with us? At Wigan & Leigh College, the moments that change lives are often quiet ones. A concept that finally clicks. A piece of fieldwork that opens up a future a student hadn't considered. A conversation in a corridor that helps someone work out where they're heading. That's what Great People. Change Lives. means in practice. You'll join a Geography department where critical thinking, fieldwork, and real-world application sit at the centre of teaching, not bolted on at the edges.

You'll have time to teach well, support students through a demanding course, and keep developing your own practice. You'll have colleagues who think the same way. And you'll see the impact when students leave with the grades, skills, and confidence to take their next step.
