About This Opportunity
We are looking to recruit an Accounting Technician to join our Schools Finance team within the Finance Service.
The team plays a key role in supporting maintained schools by providing high‑quality technical, operational and strategic financial advice.
This enables maintained schools across Cumberland to manage their budgets effectively, make informed decisions and deliver a high quality of education for our children and young people.
As an Accounting Technician, you will support Principal Accountants and Accountants in delivering a professional, flexible financial service that supports the effective management of a maintained schools budget and ensuring all spend is aligned to the grant conditions of the Dedicated Schools Grant Schools Block..
Key Responsibilities
Provide financial management information to support budget setting, budget monitoring and the closure of accounts Maintain the general ledger, including posting journals and virements, in line with Financial Regulations and schemes of delegation Support schools to manage their budgets effectively Produce financial reports and information to support decision‑making by the local authority, school leadership teams and governing bodies. Support the development and use of IT solutions to improve and standardise financial management processes Work flexibly within the Children and Family Wellbeing Finance Team, supporting different elements of the service as required
About You
You will have a strong understanding of financial management and accounting processes, with good attention to detail and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to non‑finance colleagues. You will be adaptable, collaborative and committed to providing high‑quality financial support across the organisation.
An accounting qualification (such as AAT or equivalent) or sufficient relevant experience and experience of working with financial systems, budgets and ledger maintenance are essential.
