Job Title: Senior analogue power electronics design engineer Location: Letchworth Hertfordshire Salary: £70,000 approx.
Summary of Functions
To adopt in full the Design Gate Status for each design engineering project being delivered and present status and evidence of compliance as required, to project teams, management, and customer. Undertake manufacturing engineering investigations of facilities and processes with the aim of improving productivity, quality and/or resolving manufacturing problems. Ensure that the deliverables from design to Operations are packaged and presented in line with the Product Realisation and in the correct format. Identify and implement workplace standards ensuring a standardised way of working, whilst ensuring good housekeeping is applied by all engineers and that this standard is fully maintained. Participate in independent Peer reviews, results captured and communicated for product designs, both electronic and mechanical as needed.
Mentor and develop the NPI engineers, design engineers, graduate engineers, technical apprentices, and other production staff in manufacturing engineering competencies. Support design, quality, projects, procurement, and any other relevant department, as necessary.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for Ensuring Design projects are effectively managed to deliver to specification and project budget. Working with Sales to ensure technical and non-technical requirements are understood, and within capability and working with the Design Engineers to interpret and deliver on the Technical Sales requirements. Assisting with Production in a Technical role to optimise manufacturing and test processes to design in efficiency and quality. This includes undertaking associated re-approval exercises as necessary and ensuring that the design, development and use of process, plant and equipment is safe, cost effective, controlled, and configured with company standards, customer specification and current legislation.
Supporting the Head of Engineering. Customer engagement as required. Controlling design. documentation and sign off. System level block diagram. generation and approvals. Schematic Capture. PCB Layout. Simulations & analysis. Component analysis and selection. Generation of data packs. ATP generation and validation. Test verification. FAI / FAT. VCRM compilation. Support production with debug. Component Library Management.
Knowledge
Design engineering of Digital/Analogue Power Supply Modules. Experience in developing, capturing, and reviewing system level power requirements. Power supply magnetics design experience, planar magnetics design experience. Experience with low and high-power levels and frequency ranges, isolated and non-isolated DC/DC and AC/DC power conversion designs (topologies, components, control, packaging). Familiarity with EMC/EMI, thermal stress, and other environmental issues and their impact on design methodology. Detailed knowledge of manufacturing techniques and processes, mechanical assembly, cable assembly, electronics testing, PCB assembly, etc. Knowledge of design of PCBs, mechanical housings and manufacture, good knowledge and experience of process document generation. Knowledge of manufacturing systems and knowledge of MRP/ERP systems Practical knowledge in managing projects and project activity. Application of company design and drawing standards Application of quality standards and procedures. Configuration management and application of configuration. Ability to produce or assist in the production of technical product specifications (Drawings, reports, instructions, specifications, etc). Experience of product testing and product qualification documentation.
Skills & Experience
Proven track record and a wide range of manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in high value, low volume industries Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to interact at all levels. Competent in writing technical reports and in presenting technical information. Display leadership skills and is confident to work in multi-discipline team environments. Able to work effectively with others towards common objectives. Determination to succeed and a high degree of flexibility. Able to effectively prioritise conflicting demands. Clear and unambiguous in technical communication Able to solve logical problems and analyse complex technical data. Schematic and PCB layout skills, preferably using Altium PCB Designer Familiarity with Solidworks 3D Designer an advantage
Qualifications
Essential: HNC/D in appropriate discipline or equivalent experience. Preferred: Degree in appropriate discipline or equivalent experience, incorporated engineer with experience in relevant industry
