Apprentice Engineering Technician

As an Apprentice Engineering Technician, you will play an important part in supporting our engineering team and contributing to the successful delivery of our projects. You will develop your technical skills while contributing to live engineering projects under the guidance of experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

• Learning and Development
  • Actively participate in your apprenticeship training programme and internal development opportunities
  • Take responsibility for developing your technical knowledge and practical skills through formal study, mentoring, and on-the-job experience
  • Gain exposure to engineering design processes and temporary works design within the construction environment
• Drafting and CAD Support
  • Support design engineers by preparing and updating engineering drawings and models using CAD software
  • Ensure drawings are clear, accurate, and produced in accordance with project requirements and company standards
• Maintaining Standards
  • Work to a high level of accuracy and professionalism in all engineering outputs
  • Follow established drawing standards, procedures, and quality requirements, while contributing to the continuous improvement of systems, processes, and best practices
• Documentation and Reporting
  • Assist with the preparation and management of engineering design documentation, primarily engineering drawings, but with an understanding of how design reports, risk assessments and supporting documents are prepared
  • Ensure documents are complete, well organised, and compliant with project and organisational requirements
• Collaboration and Communication
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, technicians, and project teams
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, sharing updates on tasks and raising questions where clarification is needed

  • Course contents:
    • Apply health and safety procedures and safe systems of work in compliance with regulations and standards.
    • Work in accordance with the design process, company management systems, policies and procedures.
    • Review and interpret technical information and requirements from different sources such as specifications, engineering drawings, concepts, stakeholders.
    • Identify and assess factors that affect designs such as materials, application, location, risk and environment.
    • Select materials and parts.
    • Propose and evaluate ideas for sustainable engineering concepts to solve engineering challenges.
    • Develop solutions that can be manufactured or built, and proven, operated and maintained during their operational life and decommissioned or recycled at the end of their operational life.
    • Provide feedback on engineering designs.
    • Apply quality assurance procedures to engineering drawings or models, including own designs and those of peers.
