Hazel Oak School is a vibrant, inclusive special school supporting pupils with a wide range of needs, including autism, ADHD, communication needs, SEMH and complex learning profiles. Due to continued growth, we are seeking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher to join our Senior Leadership Team. We strongly encourage applications from both experienced Assistant Headteachers and successful middle leaders who are ready to take their next step into senior leadership.

The Role Working alongside the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher, the Assistant Headteacher will contribute strategically to whole‑school improvement while remaining closely connected to teaching and learning.

Key responsibilities include: Strategic leadership and implementation of whole‑school improvement priorities Acting as a Strategic Autism Lead Leadership of whole‑school communication strategy and pupil voice Promoting trauma‑informed, restorative and co‑regulation approaches Line management, appraisal and professional development of staff Leading subject areas and whole‑school initiatives Acting as a Designated Safeguarding Lead Supporting day‑to‑day operational leadership, including staffing and cover Teaching commitment of approximately 20% timetable, across phases depending on experience Acting in the absence of the Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher when required

About You We welcome applications from candidates who are: Qualified teachers (QTS) Experienced middle leaders ready to step up, or established Assistant Headteachers Skilled in supporting pupils with SEND, particularly autism Strong communicators with the ability to build positive professional relationships Committed to inclusive practice, safeguarding and pupil wellbeing Reflective, resilient and motivated to develop as a senior leader

NPQs, SEND-related qualifications or SENCO experience are desirable but not essential.
