The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is recruiting Associate Data Governance Managers to sit at the heart of how the UK’s most important data is collected, managed and safely used.

This is a chance to work across the full data life cycle, helping ensure that the data behind national statistics, research and policy decisions is trusted, ethical and fit for purpose.

Findable, understandable and usable Managed responsibly and legally Treated as a valuable national asset

What You’ll Be Doing

As an Associate Data Governance Manager, you’ll work across different parts of ONS, depending on business need. Your work may include:

Supporting the Data Governance Office, helping embed data governance strategy, policies and standards across ONS Working with data owners, analysts and communities of practice to ensure governance is understood and applied Supporting the Data Acquisition function, helping negotiate and enable access to sustainable data sources Helping put in place governance frameworks for safe data sharing and usage Supporting documentation such as memorandums of understanding, business cases and policy guidance Advising on data protection, ethics, security and legal considerations (including GDPR) Translating between technical and non‑technical audiences, ensuring shared understanding Supporting reporting, assurance and performance tracking related to governance effectiveness

You’ll be involved throughout the end‑to‑end data life cycle, from acquisition through to use in statistics and research.
