Role: Block Caretaker

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday, between 8:00am and 4:00pm

Worker Type: On-site worker

Salary: Grade C – starting salary of £25,583 (level 1), rising to £26,403 (level 3) per annum

About The Role

As a Block Caretaker within Nottingham City Council Housing Services, you will play a vital role in helping us provide safe, clean and welcoming homes for our residents. Working as part of the Estates and Caretaking Team, you will deliver a high-quality caretaking and cleaning service across communal internal and external areas, including high-rise and low-rise blocks and Independent Living Schemes.

The role involves maintaining the appearance and safety of buildings and surrounding areas through regular cleaning, waste management, and seasonal tasks such as clearing access routes during adverse weather. You will carry out routine health and safety checks, including fire safety and water testing, and promptly report repairs, defects and environmental issues to ensure our homes meet required standards.

You will engage positively with residents, tenants, leaseholders and partner agencies, responding professionally to enquiries and reporting any concerns to the Housing Patch Manager. Clear communication, strong teamwork and a commitment to customer service are essential.

We are looking for someone who values inclusion, works safely and responsibly, and understands the importance of confidentiality, equality and statutory compliance. This is a varied, people-focused role where your contribution makes a real difference to communities across the city.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

Experience or ability in building cleaning and caretaking functions including removing refuse, which may be bulky / heavy on occasions. Experience of effectively resolving customer care issues. Ability to work without direct supervision by dealing with emergencies and difficult situations in a calm and effective manner. Ability to understand written instructions including procedures and practices particularly in respect of health and safety issues. Experience working within and understanding of Health and Safety policies and procedures. Hold or be willing to work towards BICs level 1 and/or NVQ Level 2 in cleaning and customer care.
