Postgraduate Engagement and Research Internship This position is open to current Durham University students only. The role will involve assisting the Careers & Enterprise team with research and analysis of the needs of postgraduate taught students. It will also involve supporting the creation of resources that will help our students with their career management and skills development. This internship will suit a student with a broad interest in supporting postgraduate students whilst seeking to build their own professional experience. The role will involve conducting research into the needs of postgraduate taught students at Durham University with respect to career planning and progression and the options, resources and support available to them. As part of the internship, the successful postholder will create a pathway resource which will then be available to taught master’s students to inform their career planning and employability skills development. Hours: 8 per week, with set days and times to be agreed. This post will be hybrid; some activity will be undertaken remotely, with some on site activity as required. Pay exceeds National Minimum Wage and will be £13.45 per hour. Internship duration: The internship will commence as soon as possible and cease no later than Monday 31st August 2026. The post holder must be enrolled on a Durham University postgraduate course e.g. taught master’s, master’s of research or PhD for the 2025/2026 academic year. Main Responsibilities § Undertaking engagement and research tasks to gain insight into the needs of postgraduate taught students in relation to career development and employability. § Working collaboratively with the postgraduate lead in Careers & Enterprise, the wider Careers & Enterprise team and some external stakeholders including postgraduate taught alumni. § Producing case studies and reports which will be used to illuminate postgraduate taught alumni career stories and inform future resource and support needs for current PGT students. § Create a PGT [postgraduate taught] information pathway which can be added to Careers & Enterprise’s existing resources and used by current students and graduates for their career management activities. § Any other tasks deemed appropriate
Essential Requirements § Be a current student for the 2025-26 academic year undertaking a postgraduate programme e.g. a taught master’s, master’s of research [MRes] or a PhD. § An understanding of the Careers and Enterprise offer for students § An interest in the needs and support requirements of postgraduate taught students in a higher education environment. § Experience in undertaking research and using different approaches to gather information § Good interpersonal and team working skills, with the ability to engage professionally with internal and external stakeholders § Strong English writing skills with the ability to summarise and create a report on research findings § Strong organisational skills and ability to manage own workload § Pro-active and confident using own initiative and problem-solving skills to ensure that tasks are completed § Competent user of IT packages (including Microsoft Office) and digital platforms How to Apply: Please apply with an up-to-date CV (1 or 2 pages) and a covering letter.
