Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to take on the role of Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal (MSK) Clinical Specialist within East area of BCUHB.

The role is an integral part of the Rheumatology multidisciplinary team supporting staff working within rheumatology clinics and musculoskeletal physiotherapy departments in the Wrexham and Flintshire area, providing clinical leadership to the service.

It will involve teaching, training and supervision of staff, representing the service in Clinical Network Groups (CNGs) and contributing to the development of clinical pathways by providing clinical expertise. The post holder will hold a complex caseload and support other staff with the management of complex patient presentations.

The post holder will work as an autonomous, extended scope practitioner, with an extended scope of physiotherapy practice to work within a team to deliver a clinical specialist service to patients referred to rheumatology and MSK physiotherapy services.

The physiotherapy service in BCUHB offers a whole career pathway. Service improvement and development is encouraged and all staff have access to regular supervision and training.

Main duties of the job

To take a clinical lead role in the assessment and treatment of patients where the caseload will comprise of mainly patients with complex presentations. To attend weekly Rheumatology MDT meetings, providing clinical input from a physiotherapy perspective. To work as an autonomous, clinical specialist physiotherapist. To work with the advanced practitioner physiotherapist to develop and deliver a high quality clinical service throughout BCUHB. Leading by example; provide a high standard of specialist assessment and treatment of patients in a variety of locations. To develop competencies for frontline clinical staff within the section in order to assess; clinically reason and effectively treat routine cases and identify those with complex needs where support may be required. Support staff to develop skills to identify potential serious pathology in patients referred for physiotherapy. To provide an ongoing rolling training programme and support package to develop appropriate knowledge and skills in the workforce within the specialism and rotational staff base.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
