Main duties of the job
You will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team of experienced trauma and orthopaedic consultants, committed to providing exemplary patient-centred care to both local and regional populations. This substantive post offers the opportunity to lead and further develop the upper limb service, encompassing comprehensive management of upper limb trauma, elbow arthoplasty across trauma pathways and electively as capacity allows.
Responsibilities will include the assessment, surgical intervention, and ongoing management of complex upper limb trauma and elective cases, utilising the latest techniques and evidence-based practices. You will be expected to participate in the trauma rota, contribute to major trauma on-call activity, and demonstrate substantial experience in trauma operating. Collaboration with allied health professionals, participation in audit and clinical governance, and involvement in teaching and research are integral aspects of this role.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
UHS MTC are seeking to recruit a fellowship‑trained Orthopaedic Surgeon who is ready to lead and further develop services within the department. You will join an established team of specialist trauma and orthopaedic consultants delivering high‑quality care to both local and regional populations. This post encompasses the full spectrum of upper limb trauma surgery including hand, wrist and shoulder with special interest in elbow. Elbow arthroplasty is an essential skill requirement. Elective scope of practice in hand, wrist and elbow will be available dependent on theatre capacity and subspeciality requirements. Experience in trauma operating including Major Trauma and participation in on‑call activity is essential for this role.

Qualifications, Training & Experience
Essential criteria
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification GMC registration with a license to practice Success in Intercollegiate specialty examination (FRCS Tr & Orth) or overseas equivalent Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT Experience of supervising Foundation Doctors and Specialty Trainees Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients Ability to organize and manage out-patient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists
Desirable criteria
Fellowship training in Upper limb surgery Fellowship training or experience in Elbow arthroplasty Consultant experience Major trauma experience Demonstrable experience of active and widespread audit participation Experience of supervising SpRs Ability to supervise postgraduate research Publications in journals Presentations at National level
