We are looking for a skilled Cook (Part time) to prepare delicious meals according to the menu for our lovely residents. You will support, monitor and develop Broomgrove’s catering/hospitality service under the leadership of the Catering manager. Enable it to function effectively, efficiently, and economically. The catering/hospitality service comprises patients’ meals, and service for staff and visitors. Participate in all duties required of catering staff and lead by example.
An excellent cook must be able to follow instructions in cooking and delivering well-prepared meals. They must be adept at moving around the kitchen and apt in multi-tasking. Experience in using various ingredients and cooking techniques is also important.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Head Chef, you would support the Kitchen assistants and hostess, ensuring they reach the required standards in all aspects of their work. In conjunction with the Head Chef, work to the income and expenditure budget for the catering service. Ensure Health & Safety legislation is adhered to within the main kitchen and actively promote a safety conscious environment. Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.) Cook food in various utensils or grilles Check food while cooking to stir or turn Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen Ensure all food and other items are stored properly Check the quality of ingredients Monitor stock and place orders when there are shortages Budgeting Always follow Policies/procedures and regulations
Requirements/Skills/Abilities
Proven experience as a Cook - minimum 2 years Experience in using cutting tools, cookware and bakeware Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.) Ability to work in a team Very good communication skills Excellent physical condition and stamina Drive and focus to provide excellent customer service Basic Food Hygiene Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment Leadership skills Ability to work unsupervised under own initiative Ability to maintain confidentiality Reliable & responsible Good inter-personal skills Flexibility Prioritization Time management
Hours
Part time - 20 hours per week/2 days/shifts (including weekends but only one or two per month, your shift is 10.5 hours - 07:30 - 18:00, and includes 2 breaks)

Salary & Benefits
The rate of pay is £13.21 per hour (Monday-Friday) with a 20% enhancement at weekends (£15.85). If you work any Bank Holiday, hourly pay rate is £19.82. Requirements - The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check through the Disclosure and Barring Service and Successful completion of a six-month probationary period.
