About the Role

As a Design Manager, you’ll take a leading role in delivering consultancy services across a range of critical environment projects, including enterprise data centres and professional data centre operators.

You’ll be instrumental in driving design excellence across feasibility, master planning, engineering, and commissioning, while contributing to the continued growth and success of our consultancy offering.

This is a fantastic opportunity to combine technical leadership, client engagement, and commercial awareness in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.

What You'll Be Doing

Leading the end-to-end design and delivery of data centre and critical environment projects, taking ownership across RIBA Stages 1–4, including feasibility, concept, developed design, and technical design

Managing and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, ensuring deliverables are integrated, technically robust, and delivered to programme

Acting as the technical authority, reviewing design drawings, specifications, and calculations to ensure compliance with industry standards and client expectations

Leading the preparation and review of technical submittals, full design packages, and documentation, including managing approval processes through client portals and trackers

Supporting bid and tender activity, including developing technical solutions, defining scope, identifying risks/opportunities, and contributing to commercial submissions

Conducting site surveys, engineering assessments, and client workshops, translating operational requirements into practical, buildable design solutions

Collaborating closely with internal teams (sales, project delivery, commissioning) as well as external stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and specialist suppliers

Reviewing and technically validating supplier and subcontractor proposals, ensuring compliance with specifications and project requirements

Providing oversight on design risk management, change control, and technical query resolution throughout the project lifecycle

Ensuring all designs are delivered in line with quality, safety, sustainability, and performance expectations, with a strong focus on resilience and uptime in critical environments

What We're Looking For

Proven experience in data centre design and engineering (essential)

Strong understanding of critical systems (UPS, cooling, LV systems, fire suppression, BMS)

Track record of leading technical design delivery on complex data centre engineering projects

Commercial awareness and experience working with construction/design contracts

Familiarity with standards such as Uptime Institute, BS EN 50600, TIA-942

Experience using CAD, BIM, or 3D modelling tools

Degree/HNC in Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent)

Working towards or holding Chartered status (desirable)

What Sets You Apart

Strong communicator with the ability to build client relationships

Proactive, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities

Comfortable leading projects while also collaborating within a team

Driven to improve processes, quality, and outcomes

Be part of a growing consultancy team with ambitious plans

Work on cutting-edge data centre and critical infrastructure projects

Opportunity to influence service development and team growth

Hybrid working and a collaborative, high-performance culture
