Working for Nottingham City Council has great benefits. As well as competitive pay, generous annual leave and access to a local government pension scheme, we’re committed to creating an inclusive, forward‑looking and supportive workplace where people are empowered to do their best work.

In return, we are looking for people who are motivated, organised and committed to public service. If you are passionate about improving how local government services operate and want to help shape Nottingham’s places and communities, we would love to hear from you.

About the Role

As a Development Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the effective operation of Development Management and Building Control services.

Working across planning and building control, you will manage a portfolio of defined projects and workstreams, maintain performance and delivery oversight information, and produce high‑quality reports, briefings and feasibility material that support informed decision‑making. You will help coordinate cross‑service activity, track progress against priorities, and ensure actions, risks and deadlines are actively managed.

This is a varied and hands‑on role, well suited to someone who enjoys working across teams, taking ownership of delivery and helping services improve how they work.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of working in a customer‑focused or service‑led organisation, where improving service delivery, managing priorities and responding to customer needs are central to the role.
  • A degree-level qualification or experience in planning, the built environment, development, construction, project management or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience of coordinating projects or work programmes, including tracking actions, managing deadlines and supporting delivery.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear reports and briefings and work effectively with a range of stakeholders.
