EARLY CAREER ARCHAEOLOGISTS & SITE ARCHAEOLOGISTS FIELDWORK
About The Role
Milton Keynes Fieldwork: Early Career Archaeologists and Site Archaeologists (Permanent and Fixed Term Contracts)
Salary – £27,206 to £28,292
About AOC
AOC is one of the leading, and fastest growing, heritage companies in the UK. With seven regional offices across the country, over the last five years we have seen our turnover and staff double in size. We are a CIfA Registered Organisation, with accreditations in ISO14001, ISO45001 and ISO9001.
2026 continues to be an exciting year for our Milton Keynes office, with multiple large scale projects ongoing and scheduled. As our office grows, we are looking to recruit Project Supervisor and Project Officers to help deliver our extensive portfolio. Staff will be responsible for the delivery of exciting projects from cradle to grave, including site set up, project delivery, reporting and publication.
Our recent projects have ranged from discovery of a Roman Town through geophysics, excavation of a Roman roadside settlement and pottery production site, excavation of a post-medieval urban settlement, and excavation of multi-period large infrastructure projects. We are looking to appoint ambitious individuals who will help us deliver similar projects, our future vision and growth.
Role
This role is ideal for graduates, individuals starting their archaeological career, or those with some fieldwork experience looking to develop their skills further.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
