About Us: Edinburgh Open Workshop (EOW) is an innovative, creative co-working space, offering membership-based, Pay-As-You-Go access to workshop facilities, machinery, power tools, hand tools, workbenches, fabrication space, textile bays and long-term resident maker space, studios, and office space. A not-for-profit social enterprise that is expanding, we are Edinburgh’s only open-access workshop, supporting a community of over 300 hobbyist and professional makers, designers, and creatives.

We are looking for an Education Officer to join our small close-knit team and to curate, manage and administer our education program.

About you: You believe in accessible, community‑centred creative learning. You are organised, people‑focused, and confident working with a wide range of learners, teaching artists, and community partners. You enjoy designing and coordinating learning experiences, managing multiple moving parts, and ensuring that participants feel supported from first enquiry to final session. You combine strong communication skills with the ability to plan, schedule, and deliver high‑quality educational activity.

About the role: The Education Officer will lead the coordination and development of EOW’s LEARN programme, including public courses, community workshops, partner‑led sessions, and funded education projects. You will work closely with teaching subcontractors and the wider EOW team to deliver a high‑quality, accessible, and well‑organised learning offer.

This role combines curriculum development, scheduling, instructor liaison,engagement, and the administration of our education systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities: Education Programme Coordination Develop and deliver a tiered creative learning curriculum Curate and schedule EOW’s Courses & Workshops, reviewing proposals, budgets, and feasibility Maintain course documentation, costing summaries, and quality standards

Instructor & Partner Liaison Build and maintain strong relationships with teaching subcontractors and partner instructors Manage contracts, onboarding, and regular check‑ins Support instructors with course planning, updates, and operational needs

Digital & Communications Management Maintain the LEARN page and course listings, including product builds, copy, images, and stock levels Manage participant communications, waitlists, automations, and LEARN newsletter content in collaboration with the marketing team Keep internal systems and documentation up to date (registers, schedules, forms, templates, permissions)

Community & Funded Learning Delivery Coordinate charity and community group bookings (private and bespoke) Support the development and delivery of funded education programmes Liaise with partners and contribute to reporting and evaluation

Mentoring & Learning Space Coordination Manage mentoring enquiries, scheduling and invoicing Oversee Learning Space Hire courses, including agreements, logistics, and scheduling

Required Experience: Experience in education, community learning, creative programming, or similar Strong project management and organisational skills Ability to collaborate well with humans Excellent communication skills with people at all levels and ages Confidence and ability to speak in public Comfortable collating, writing, and submitting reports Experience in creating and working with project budgets Ability to collaborate well with teaching artists, partners, and colleagues Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively Strong written and verbal communication and negotiation skills, ability to build rapport Proven computer literacy skills and experience A friendly, supportive approach and enjoyment of working as part of a team

Desirable Experience: Experience designing or delivering creative training or workshops Experience working with community groups, charities, or third‑sector organisations Knowledge of the creative industries and current sector landscape Experience with Mailchimp, CMS platforms, or digital content management Relevant professional qualification(s)
