Join Clarke Energy as an Electrical Design Engineer At Clarke Energy, our Electrical Design Engineers play a vital role in shaping the energy systems that power hospitals, industry and communities across the UK and beyond. From early concept through to installation and commissioning, you’ll be closely involved in designing reliable, low‑carbon power generation solutions that genuinely make a difference. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving real‑world problems, collaborating across disciplines and seeing their designs come to life on site. You’ll work within a supportive, knowledgeable engineering team where quality, safety and continuous improvement are taken seriously – but people always come first.
What you’ll be doing Designing resilient, real‑world power systems You’ll take conceptual electrical designs and develop them into fully engineered solutions that meet contractual, technical and regulatory requirements. This will include producing specifications, calculations, equipment selection and detailed design documentation for a wide range of technologies including gas‑powered generation, CHP, battery energy storage systems (BESS), hydrogen, solar, wind and microgrids. You’ll carry out power system studies such as load flows, fault analysis, protection studies, harmonic assessments (G5/5), voltage flicker (P28) and G99 simulations – ensuring our designs are robust, compliant and fit for purpose.
Supporting projects from start to finish Your input will be valued right from the sales stage, where you’ll support tender designs and technical submissions, through to installation, commissioning and testing. You’ll work closely with Project Managers, providing timely technical documentation and practical engineering support when it matters most. Seeing your designs transition from drawings to installed systems is a key part of this role.
Collaborating across disciplines You’ll work hand‑in‑hand with Mechanical Design Engineers, CAD technicians and wider project teams to develop integrated design solutions. You’ll coordinate design activity, contribute to HAZOPs and risk assessments, and help ensure that design outputs are delivered to agreed timescales and quality standards. Strong collaboration and clear communication are central to how we work.
Putting safety and quality first You’ll operate to Clarke Energy’s Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards at all times, helping to ensure our designs support safe construction, commissioning and long‑term operation.
About you You’re an engineer who takes pride in producing high‑quality work and enjoys responsibility for your own designs. You’re comfortable balancing technical detail with broader project needs, and you communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical colleagues.
You’ll likely bring: A degree in Electrical Engineering (or HNC/HND with substantial relevant experience) Experience in power generation or a closely related industry (typically 1–25MW) Knowledge of LV and MV electrical systems, power trains and associated control and instrumentation Experience using power system analysis software and AutoCAD (or similar) A proactive, dependable and collaborative approach to work Professional registration, CHP or HV substation experience, ETAP knowledge and NERS familiarity are all welcome but not essential.
Why join Clarke Energy? We believe great engineering starts with well‑supported people. In return for your expertise, we offer: A very competitive salary, based on experience Car allowance 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays 7% company pension contribution Flexible and hybrid working arrangements Westfield Health cash plan Life assurance and employee assistance programme Investment in your professional development and career progression A collaborative culture where your ideas and input are genuinely valued
