Inspiring Early Years excellence across Gateshead
The Education, Schools and Inclusion team play a pivotal role in the education of adults and children across Gateshead. They offer specialist advice on school improvement, educational psychology services and special educational needs as well as input on school organisation and admission, adult learning and early years childcare. Their work has direct impact on thousands of people across Gateshead and are led by Service Director, Suzanne Dunn.
Our School Improvement Service is a collaborative, supportive and ambitious team dedicated to raising outcomes for children across Gateshead. We work closely with schools, settings, leaders and practitioners to strengthen practice, share expertise and build sustainable improvement. As the EYFS Good Level of Development (GLD) Lead Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in improving outcomes for our youngest learners across multiple settings. You will model highquality practice, build professional confidence, and support practitioners to deliver consistently strong Early Years provision. Through coaching, training, and collaborative problemsolving, you will help ensure childrenparticularly those with SENDreceive the support, challenge and nurturing start they need to thrive. This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference at scale, influencing practice across settings and shaping positive futures for children in the Early Years.

What You'll Get To Do
Provide highquality teaching in Early Years settings to promote a Good Level of Development (GLD) for children in Early Learning Goals. Work alongside partners to embed good quality first teaching in Early Years settings. Work with partners to identify and support special educational needs (SEND), ensuring children with SEND achieve a GLD. Design, deliver and evaluate highquality professional development and training for practitioners and colleagues working in Early Years. Establish productive working relationships with children, challenge and motivate them, promote selfesteem, and act as a role model with high expectations. Liaise with parents/carers and other professionals and operate within a multiagency framework to support children’s welfare and progress. Undertake continuous professional development and build flexibility within teams to respond to service needs. Adhere to the policies and ethos of each setting you work in. Attend and remain up to date with safeguarding training, operating fully in line with safeguarding and child protection requirements. Maintain required records for educational settings and Gateshead Council to support tracking, monitoring, and quality assurance. Attend and contribute to team and service meetings. Work in line with Gateshead Council policies, DfE Teachers’ Standards, and associated obligations. Carry out any other duties appropriate to the grade of the post.
What You'll Bring
Thorough and uptodate knowledge of EYFS (statutory and nonstatutory guidance), child development, Early Years curriculum and assessment (including the 17 ELGs), Ofsted requirements, Early Years pedagogies, safeguarding, and SENDespecially approaches supporting speech, language and communication needs. Successful teaching experience in Early Years with a proven record of helping children achieve a Good Level of Development. Experience working both independently and collaboratively, including within multiagency contexts. Experience leading and delivering professional development for others. Qualified Teacher Status with evidence of ongoing professional development relating to Early Years. Ability to apply knowledge effectively in practice, including high expectations, childcentred approaches, and strong professional relationships. Access to a car (or mobility support) with a valid driving licence and appropriate insurance.
