Head of Equity Research – Public Equities (London)

A leading, long‑term public‑equities investment business is seeking a Head of Equity Research to lead a high‑conviction research platform based in London. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for setting the research agenda, developing investment talent, and partnering closely with portfolio managers on idea generation and portfolio construction.

Key responsibilities Set the overall research strategy and agenda for the equity platform, ensuring deep, differentiated fundamental insights across the firm’s core universes. Lead, manage, and develop a team of equity analysts and senior analysts, including recruitment, coaching, objective setting, and performance assessment. Work in close partnership with portfolio managers to originate, challenge, and refine investment ideas, and to ensure research outputs are directly linked to portfolio decisions and risk management. Oversee research standards, including modelling quality, valuation frameworks, documentation, and investment case communication. Champion a culture of rigorous debate, accountability, and long‑term thinking within the investment team. Contribute to broader business initiatives, including client communications, product development input, and representation at selected client or consultant meetings where appropriate.

Candidate profile Significant experience in public‑equities investing, with a strong track record in fundamental research and idea generation. Prior responsibility for leading or coordinating a research team, sector group, or investment pod, with demonstrable people‑leadership experience. Deep proficiency in fundamental company analysis, valuation techniques, and portfolio impact assessment. Strong communication skills, able to synthesise complex views and influence portfolio construction decisions. Evidence of building and developing investment talent, including mentoring senior and junior analysts. Comfortable operating in a high‑conviction, often concentrated investment environment (e.g. quality‑growth, value/contrarian, or long‑only / hedge fund settings).

Location London, with a primarily office‑based culture and reasonable flexibility.

Remuneration Senior, market‑competitive compensation package, including base salary, performance‑linked bonus, and participation in long‑term incentive arrangements aligned with team and firm outcomes. Comprehensive benefits package.
