Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate band 3 Healthcare Assistant to join our Intensive Care team, supporting the delivery of high-quality care to critically ill patients.

Working under supervision of registered nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team, the post holder will assist in the delivery of patient care within a highly specialised and fast-paced environment.

This includes supporting personal care, assisting patient positioning and mobility, and helping to maintain a safe, clean, and well-equipped clinical area.

The role requires a caring and professional approach, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.

The post holder will contribute to ensuring patients receive safe, dignified and compassionate care at all times.

You will be working closely with patients who require close monitoring and complex care needs. You will contributing to their comfort, dignity and overall experience.

We will support you to gain relevant knowledge, skills and experience that will help you achieve your potential in this role.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of care within a critical care setting. Previous experience in an acute environment is desirable, although full training and support will be provided.

Main duties of the job

As a Health Care Assistant, you will work under direct or indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse/Nursing Associate. You will be primarily assisting the nursing team with care of the patients and will facilitate the smooth running of the department.

As a member of the ward/department team you will always support clinically your registrant colleagues and act in the best interest of patients. With this role we expect that everyone is treated with respect and dignity and values others’ beliefs whilst delivering clinical care. This is a clinical front facing role where excellent customer care skills are expected to be delivered to patients, relatives, carers, and colleagues.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

These are some of the clinical roles you may be expected to deliver as a B3 HCA at FHFT: please refer to the full JD for a more expanded list.

To assist patients to eat and drink as required, assisting in menu selection and being aware of special dietary requirements and cultural requirements. To enable and assist patients to maintain their personal hygiene. To contribute to the safe movement of patients, using equipment to mobilise and move patients, after mobility assessment, to ensure patient comfort. To assist with discharge procedures. Inputting patient belongs onto EPIC. Clean bedspaces after patient discharge, dealing with disposal of soiled linen as per policy. To ensure ward equipment is suitably maintained and cleaned frequently. To support rehabilitation goals of the patients in the unit.
