Entry Level
We're seeking a Housing Legal Assistant to join our established in-house Housing Legal team on a fixed-term basis until March 2027. In this role, you'll work closely with our Housing Solicitors and Head of Housing Litigation to deliver a firm, results-driven service, successfully resolving housing management and tenancy enforcement matters such as those relating to serious anti-social behaviour.
You'll be responsible for a varied caseload under the supervision of a Housing Solicitor, focusing on cases where early interventions have been exhausted and formal legal action is the necessary next step. You'll have the opportunity to prepare claim forms, pleadings, and witness statements to enable the successful preparation of possession proceedings and other civil litigation actions required to protect our communities and the business. You'll also provide direct legal advice to internal stakeholders on enforcement strategies and related issues.
This is an ideal opportunity to gain exposure to the sharp end of housing law and civil litigation. At times you will be needed to attend court to represent Midland Heart, primarily to instruct counsel; for candidates seeking the opportunity to develop their advocacy experience, we can support this too!
Our ideal candidate?
You'll hold a 2:1 Law Degree or above, and practical experience in a legal role; OR you'll be LPC-qualified (or equivalent, i.e. SQE-qualified). You'll have excellent written and verbal communication skills, sufficient to produce letters, court pleadings and witness statements, as well as engage with clients, witnesses and liaise with counsel and the Courts. You'll be highly organised, with the ability to manage and prioritise a large and varied caseload with competing priorities and deadlines and be able to deal with complex situations logically. Previous experience working within a civil litigation environment, including civil drafting and trial preparation e.g. preparing bundles, and an understanding of the CPR is desirable but not essential.
Please note, we're unable to accept applications without a Cover Letter. Your cover letter should highlight a challenging case you have managed. We're particularly interested in the skills you used to navigate the situation and how that experience translates to the Housing Legal Assistant role.
Who are Midland Heart? We're one team working together for our tenants. A large, ambitious housing organisation providing people with an affordable place to call home.
