As an Electrical apprentice, you will complete a list of electrical tasks including tests, repairs and installs. You will also attend college one day per week at East Sussex College (Eastbourne) to gain your level 3 qualification.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, tests, maintains, repairs electrical systems and equipment, ensuring safe operation and compliance with industry standards across residential, commercial, and industrial environments.
  • Work from different sites, requiring travel.

Requirements

  • GCSE in English & Maths (grade C / 4 or above) is desirable.
  • Share any other relevant qualifications and industry experience, as the apprenticeship can be adjusted.

Application Process

  • Attend college one day per week at East Sussex College (Eastbourne) to gain your level 3 qualification.
  • Complete assignments, observations, and progress reviews every 10-12 weeks with an assigned assessor.

What you'll learn

  • Comply with all relevant legislation, environmental regulations, codes of practice, and guidance when planning and performing electrical work.
  • Identify and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Carry out work in a tidy and safe manner, restoring the work area upon completion.
  • Apply relevant legislation, Building Regulations, industry guidance notes, codes of practice, and the current Wiring Regulations (BS7671).
  • Understand and apply practices and procedures for planning and preparing to maintain electrotechnical systems and equipment.
  • Apply mathematical and scientific techniques, formulae, and calculations relevant to electrical work.
  • Use a range of tools, materials, equipment, and components for electrical work.
  • Design, plan, set up, and install electrical and related electronic systems, including terminating and connecting cables.
  • Inspect and test new and existing electrical installations using test equipment.
  • Apply diagnostic and problem-solving techniques to identify and resolve electrical faults.
  • Install electrical and electronic equipment, including connections for EV charge points, battery storage, solar and thermal panels, heating and cooling systems.
  • Maintain electrical and electronic equipment, including connections for EV charge points, battery storage, solar and thermal panels, heating and cooling systems.
  • Manage own work, ensuring compliance with electrician standards.
  • Record work, including completion of documentation, test results, and preparation of certification.
  • Use relevant digital learning platforms and business communication applications.

Training Schedule

  • Level 3 Electrical Apprenticeship at East Sussex College.
  • Attend the Eastbourne campus one day per week.
  • Receive support from an assessor for assignments, observations, and progress reviews every 10-12 weeks.
  • Study Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, and professional development topics.
