Lead Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team working on cutting-edge, complex technology products. This role combines technical leadership with hands-on mechanical design and project ownership across multi-disciplinary development programmes.

You will lead by example, driving engineering excellence while remaining actively involved in design, analysis, and problem-solving. Key Responsibilities Translate department objectives into clear team goals, KPIs, and delivery initiatives Lead and develop a mechanical engineering team, shaping working practices, design processes, and project execution standards Identify capability gaps within the team and support technical and professional development Take ownership of key project work packages and continuous improvement initiatives Coordinate delivery across internal engineering teams and external partners Act as a technical authority and hands-on contributor within mechanical design activities Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated system development Support management of workforce priorities, including advising on team structure, policies, and performance matters Ensure team alignment with organisational processes, standards, and expectations

Skills & Experience Proven track record of leading product development within mechanical engineering environments Experience in mechanical design of high-tech equipment across full product lifecycle Strong background in precision engineering, including optical systems integration Expert knowledge of mechanical design standards for precision machined and sheet metal components Proficiency in SolidWorks, with experience in FEA or flow simulation considered advantageous Strong hands-on engineering capability with understanding of modern manufacturing methods Excellent organisational and coordination skills, with experience managing multiple concurrent technical activities
