Utilising our intuitive software, user friendly filming kits and facial redaction services, ChilliPharm enables clinicians, investigators and sponsors to record, share, review and submit video assessments to regulatory bodies securely and compliantly.

The Role ChilliPharm is looking for a Lead Platform Engineer to join our team and play a pivotal role in enabling fast, secure, and reliable software delivery. This is a hands-on leadership position designed for an engineer who thrives on building scalable platforms, simplifying complex developer workflows, and embedding rigorous security and compliance directly into the delivery pipeline.

You will collaborate closely with Software Engineering, QA, and Product teams to optimize the journey from development to production, ensuring our platform meets the high standards required for a regulated environment.

Platform: The ChilliPharm application is a containerised Ruby on Rails and NodeJS application orchestrated by Kubernetes on AWS, which is on the way to becoming a microservice based application, using a diversity of appropriate technologies. We are still developing our infrastructure, and part of the role will be to help develop that future shape.

Key Responsibilities: Infrastructure as Code: Build and maintain robust cloud infrastructure using IaC tools like Terraform. CI/CD Excellence: Design and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines to ensure releases are reliable, repeatable, and transparent. Path to Live: Define and enable a clear, efficient "path to live" across all development, UAT, and production environments. Developer Experience (DevEx): Drive developer productivity by implementing better tooling, automation, and self-service capabilities. Regulated Delivery: Support environment management and release strategies that satisfy pharmaceutical regulatory requirements. Security & Auditability: Embed security, granular access control, and full auditability into every stage of the platform and delivery process. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with QA and Software Engineering teams to ensure platform stability and maximum delivery efficiency

Commercial Awareness: Understanding the business drivers behind solution development is essential. They will work closely with the team and Chillipharm to align technical vision with business goals alongside the Head of Technology and be effective at making trade offs to focus on the priority business, customer and stakeholder requirements.

Essential Skills & Experience Experience: Minimum 5+ years in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or SRE roles, with a proven track record of building internal developer platforms. Cloud Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience with major cloud platforms preferably AWS. Automation: Expert-level experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform). Container Orchestration: Experience in Kubernetes and GitOps principles of cluster management Pipeline Management: Deep experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools like Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions. Operational Excellence: A solid understanding of system reliability, security, and operational best practices. Workflow Optimization: Demonstrated experience supporting or improving developer workflows to reduce friction.

Preferred (But not Essential) Modern Stacks: Familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript environments and monorepo management (e.g., Nx). Identity & Access: Experience with identity platforms like Auth0 and modern access management patterns. Regulated Industries: Background in Life Sciences, Healthcare, or Finance is highly beneficial. Observability: Exposure to modern monitoring, logging, and incident response practices.
