Closing Date: 29 May 2026 The Role Newcastle Law School seeks to appoint a Lecturer T&S (Fixed Term) to join our forward thinking, inclusive Russell Group Law School.
We are looking for an individual with a PhD in law (or near completion) with an emerging research profile who can contribute to the teaching of Law & Ethics (a Stage 1 compulsory module introducing students to theories of legal reasoning and the role of ethics in legal reasoning). Ability to deliver the Animal Rights Law module or to contribute to other teaching on the undergraduate LLB degree is highly desirable. This is a 12-month fixed-term post (September 1st 2026 to Aug 28th 2027) funded by a Leverhulme Research Fellowship. The post is primarily to cover replacement teaching and administrative responsibilities, but the successful candidate will have an opportunity to work with colleagues in the Law School to develop their own research/scholarship.

Key Responsibilities
Contribute to teaching on Law & Ethics (essential); ability to deliver the Animal Rights Law module or to contribute to other teaching on the undergraduate LLB degree is highly desirable
Deliver high quality teaching and learning materials, resources and activities
Set, mark, and assess course work and examinations, providing timely and effective feedback to students in line with University policy, and utilise on-line and digitised curricula and education frameworks
Supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate students as required
Mentor and support students throughout their studies in the role of academic adviser.
Operate as an active citizen in the Newcastle Law School community
Have a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and an understanding of how individual behaviour can contribute to a positive research and education culture
Undertake a range of administrative tasks to support your area of teaching, research and/or engagement
Undertake additional adminsitrative duties as required by Head of School
The Person (Essential)
Knowledge, skills and experience
Demonstrable teaching and marking experience on an undergraduate LLB degree programme
Subject knowledge of law and ethics/legal theory and capacity to teach this (essential)
Ability to deliver/contribute to the Animal Rights Law module and/or to contribute to other teaching on the undergraduate LLB degree is highly desirable
Evidence or the potential to provide a high-quality educational experience that engages, challenges, and inspires our students
Ability to supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate students’ research projects
Excellent written and oral communication skills

Qualifications
A good LLB Honours degree
PhD (or equivalent) at or near completion (strictly within three months of submission at time of application) in a relevant subject
HE teaching qualification or equivalent experience (Desirable)
