We are currently supporting an international energy business on the hire of a lawyer into its trading and supply legal team in London.
This role sits within a globally integrated legal function supporting a sophisticated international trading business and offers exposure to complex, high-value trading, supply and infrastructure matters in a genuinely fast-paced commercial environment.
The successful individual will work closely with commercial, trading and project stakeholders across multiple international offices, alongside wider functions including Credit, Tax and Operations.
The work includes:
• Trading agreements and related commercial documentation • Mid and long-term commodity sale and purchase arrangements • Infrastructure and downstream project documentation • Terminal, storage, transportation and capacity arrangements • Operational advisory work including force majeure, scheduling, sanctions and credit issues • Disputes support relating to trading and operational matters
The role would suit a lawyer looking to move closer to the commercial heartbeat of the international energy and commodities market.
The environment is intellectually demanding and highly commercial. The team is looking for someone capable of:
• handling multiple live matters simultaneously; • operating effectively under pressure; • making quick commercial/legal judgments; • communicating clearly and succinctly with commercial stakeholders; • balancing legal risk against commercial opportunity.
Whilst direct trading experience is advantageous, the business places significant emphasis on quality of thinking, commercial judgement and technical legal capability.
Strong transferable backgrounds may include:
• commodity trading; • energy projects/infrastructure; • long-term supply or offtake arrangements; • broader commercial work within the energy sector.
The role is London based with hybrid working.
