We are looking for an experienced, motivated and community‑focused Library Manager to lead high‑quality library services that support reading, learning, wellbeing and digital inclusion across Norfolk. This role is central to ensuring our libraries remain welcoming, safe and inclusive spaces for everyone.
About the Role
As a Library Manager, you will oversee the day‑to‑day running of one or more library sites, leading staff and volunteers to deliver excellent customer service and a varied programme of activities. You will help shape the library’s role at the heart of the local community, working closely with partners and community groups to meet local needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and supporting staff and volunteers to provide a friendly, professional and efficient service.
- Managing rotas, staffing requirements and daily operational tasks.
- Ensuring the library is welcoming, inclusive and safe, with a strong focus on safeguarding practices and customer wellbeing.
- Providing signposting and support for customers on a range of issues, helping them access relevant information, services and community resources.
- Working proactively with local community groups, schools, partner organisations and other council services to develop outreach, events and activities that benefit residents.
- Overseeing stock presentation, digital resources, building management and library spaces.
- Delivering and promoting activities that support reading, digital confidence, creativity and health and wellbeing.
- Monitoring performance, collecting data and contributing to service planning and continuous improvement.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience leading people or teams, with the ability to motivate and support staff and volunteers.
- Communicates clearly and confidently with a wide range of customers, partners and community groups.
- Is committed to safeguarding and understands how to recognise and respond to concerns appropriately.
- Is calm, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities in a busy public‑facing environment.
- Is confident using digital tools and supporting customers of all ages to build their digital skills.
- Enjoys working collaboratively and is committed to delivering inclusive, community‑focused services.
- Brings enthusiasm, initiative and a positive approach to problem‑solving and service development.
Experience in a library or similar frontline environment is helpful, but full training will be provided. A genuine passion for community engagement and public service is essential.
