About The Role

What if your years of advanced research could directly shape how the world's most powerful AI systems think, reason, and solve problems? We're looking for Masters and PhD-level researchers to work alongside leading AI labs — designing complex problems, stress-testing AI reasoning, and helping push the frontier of what AI can do.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for researchers who want meaningful, intellectually stimulating work on their own schedule. Your academic expertise isn't just a credential here — it's the core of what you'll contribute.

Organization: Alignerr Type: Hourly Contract Location: Remote Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

Design, solve, and review advanced, multi-disciplinary problems with real-world complexity and academic rigor Apply your research expertise to construct problem statements that genuinely challenge and improve AI reasoning capabilities Evaluate AI outputs for depth, accuracy, and logical soundness across technical domains Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and domain experts to improve model performance Ensure every deliverable meets the highest standards of clarity, precision, and intellectual depth

Who You Are

Holds a Master's or PhD in a STEM or highly technical field from a top university Has a strong track record in research, publications, or complex technical project work Thinks rigorously — you approach problems with the same systematic depth you'd bring to a peer-reviewed paper Communicates with exceptional clarity in both written and verbal form Self-directed and reliable when working independently across asynchronous workflows Fluent in English and based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have

Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assessment, or evaluation systems Proficiency in Python, R, or other research-oriented programming languages Familiarity with AI tools, language models, or machine learning workflows Experience designing or grading rigorous academic assessments or problem sets

Why Join Us

Work directly on cutting-edge AI projects alongside the world's leading research labs Fully remote and flexible — structure your work around your life, not the other way around Freelance autonomy with access to substantive, intellectually challenging work Make a lasting impact on how AI reasons through the world's hardest problems Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new research projects launch
