MLRO Digital Assets & Payments | Gibraltar (Relocation Opportunity)
RecruitBlock, executive search firm specialising in digital assets, crypto and Web3 leadership appointments, is advising on a Gibraltar-based MLRO appointment for a regulated digital assets and cross-border payments platform operating across institutional markets. This role sits within a business combining regulated e-money infrastructure and regulated DLT capability, supporting corporate clients, financial institutions and payment firms transacting across fiat and digital asset rails globally.
Key Requirement This appointment is strictly targeted at individuals currently operating within regulated digital assets or regulated payments environments. You must have current or recent experience as MLRO or Deputy MLRO within one of the following: Regulated VASP / CASP Regulated DLT provider Regulated EMI (Electronic Money Institution)
The Role This is a Gibraltar-based MLRO position with formal responsibility across: A regulated EMI A regulated DLT entity The role carries direct ownership of financial crime frameworks, regulatory engagement and decision-making across institutional (B2B) client activity, including financial institutions, payment firms and regulated counterparties. This is a control function role with real commercial impact, where onboarding, risk and financial crime decisions directly influence client acceptance, revenue generation and regulatory positioning.
Core Responsibilities Act as MLRO across Gibraltar-regulated EMI and DLT entities Own AML / CTF frameworks, governance and policy architecture Lead SAR reporting, internal escalation and law enforcement engagement Maintain direct relationship with the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC) Oversee corporate client onboarding, including CDD, EDD and high-risk approvals Assess financial crime risk across cross-border payment flows (fiat and crypto) Evaluate complex transaction activity and institutional counterparty exposure Oversee transaction monitoring frameworks and high-risk alert handling Support decision-making where regulatory integrity and commercial growth intersect
Executive Profile Current or recent experience as MLRO or Deputy MLRO within a regulated VASP, CASP, DLT provider or EMI Direct ownership of financial crime frameworks within regulated digital asset or payments businesses Proven expertise in corporate KYC, institutional onboarding and enhanced due diligence across complex ownership structures Experience assessing financial crime risk across cross-border payments and multi-layered transaction flows Background working with B2B clients, including financial institutions or payment counterparties Experience overseeing transaction monitoring, high-risk alerts and SAR decision-making Confidence engaging with regulators, auditors and senior stakeholders Ability to apply commercial judgement within regulated, revenue-generating environments FCA-regulated experience is strongly preferred.
