Pre-Operative Assessment Nurse - Plastic Surgery & Burns

As a Medical Secretary with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, you will play a vital role in supporting Consultants and clinical teams to deliver safe, effective and patient‑centred care. You will be a key point of contact for patients, relatives and multidisciplinary colleagues, helping to coordinate care pathways with professionalism and compassion. This is a varied, fast‑paced role where your organisational skills, initiative and attention to detail will make a real difference every day. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
Glasgow Royal Infirmary Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:30 Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to Consultant(s) and their clinical teams Manage complex diaries, correspondence, clinic preparation and audio typing to support effective patient care Act as a first point of contact for patients, relatives and staff, handling enquiries with sensitivity, tact and professionalism Coordinate clinics, referrals, admissions and investigations to support smooth patient pathways and waiting list management Use electronic patient systems to update records, process referrals and support discharge and follow‑up arrangements Prioritise and manage a busy workload independently while maintaining confidentiality and high standards of accuracy Work collaboratively with colleagues across services and provide cross-cover and support when required

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
HNC or SVQ Level III in Secretarial Studies or Business Administration or equivalent relevant experience Proven experience of providing high‑quality administrative or secretarial support, ideally within healthcare Advanced keyboard and audio typing skills with excellent accuracy and attention to detail Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines Confidence using IT systems including Microsoft Office applications and electronic patient record systems Knowledge of medical terminology or demonstrable willingness to develop this knowledge Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
