Senior Level
Are you ready to embark on an exciting journey as a Principal Imaging Physicist – Radiotherapy with GenesisCare UK?
Join our nationally connected oncology physics team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of radiotherapy imaging across our UK network of specialist cancer care centres.
Please note that this is a national role, with regular travel required to our network of centres around business needs.
The Role
As our Principal Imaging Physicist – Radiotherapy, you will act as the national technical and governance lead for all radiotherapy imaging practice across GenesisCare UK. This is a senior, specialist Clinical Scientist role with accountability for the quality, safety, optimisation, and regulatory assurance of imaging throughout the radiotherapy pathway.
Your remit spans CT and MR simulation, image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), adaptive radiotherapy, MR-Linac imaging, and advanced techniques including SABR, SRS, and 4DCT. You will set national standards, lead optimisation of imaging dose and quality, and ensure consistent, high-quality practice across Varian and Elekta platforms.
This role is deliberately radiotherapy-focused, with diagnostic imaging governance managed separately. You will work collaboratively across disciplines to ensure imaging remains a safe, effective, and forward-looking cornerstone of radiotherapy delivery.
What You’ll Do
-
Act as the national technical authority for radiotherapy imaging, including CT simulation, kV/MV imaging, CBCT, MR-Linac imaging, and adaptive workflows
-
Lead governance, quality management, and regulatory compliance for all radiotherapy imaging practice
-
Own the optimisation of imaging dose and image quality, benchmarking practice against national standards and DRLs
-
Design, implement, and maintain national commissioning and QA frameworks for radiotherapy imaging systems
-
Lead the commissioning of new imaging equipment, acceptance testing, baseline QA, and return-to-service following major upgrades or repairs
-
Provide Medical Physics Expert advice under IR(ME)R as it applies to radiotherapy imaging
-
Act as the national escalation point for complex IGRT, imaging performance, and clinical risk issues
-
Support capital programmes, equipment replacement, and service development in radiotherapy imaging and adaptive technologies
-
Provide expert scientific and clinical advice to physicists, radiographers, and clinicians
-
Contribute to national automation and standardisation initiatives within imaging QA and adaptive radiotherapy workflows
-
Maintain professional breadth across the wider Clinical Scientist role to support service resilience and credibility
What You’ll Have
-
HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist (Radiotherapy Physics or Diagnostic Radiology)
-
Certification as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) or working towards certification
-
Extensive post-qualification experience in radiotherapy imaging and IGRT
-
Advanced knowledge of CT simulation, CBCT, kV/MV imaging, MR-Linac imaging, and adaptive radiotherapy systems
-
Proven experience in commissioning and QA of radiotherapy imaging equipment and software
-
Demonstrable expertise in imaging dose optimisation within the radiotherapy pathway
-
Experience supporting regulatory audits, inspections, and governance reviews
-
Strong technical leadership skills with the ability to influence practice without direct line management
-
Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex technical and regulatory information into clear, practical guidance
-
A highly organised, self-directed, and accountable approach to work
