Job Title: Principal Registered Building Inspector Employing Company: Hertfordshire Building Control (part of the Broste Rivers Group Ltd) Department: Technical Reports to: Head of Building Control Contract type: Permanent Location: Remote/Hybrid (Our office is based in Welwyn Garden City)

PURPOSE OF ROLE: To manage a range of projects from small domestic extensions to the complex major commercial developments liaising with clients, design teams, architects and builders. To provide professional support acting as the compliance lead whilst ensuring that value is added for our customers, at each stage of the build process.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Duties of the post include, but are not limited to: • Working with client and design teams to provide pre-emptive advice • Assessing plans submitted for Building Regulation approval • Carrying out on-site technical assessments • Offering guidance to builders as well as undertaking forensic investigations • Supporting undergraduate Registered Building Inspectors on more complex technical matters • Assess allocated plans submitted for Building Regulation approval, within statutory deadlines and Broste Rivers Groups operating standards • Principle Contact and project lead for plans assessment • Preparation of a compliant design for handover to the site inspector • Files/data and documentation updated efficiently • Assistant to site inspector with any questions/concerns relating to works carried out on site for the duration of the build • Identify compliance and pursue interventions with duty holders • Undertake forensic investigations as necessary • Support technical teams on more complex technical matters • Attend and meaningfully engage in team meetings • Provide technical contributions at team meetings, promoting personal and colleagues’ professional development • Deputise as required for the Head of Building Control • Complete other duties as agreed and assigned by the Line Manager

PERSON SPECIFICATION: Essential • Registered Building Inspector (minimum Class 2F) • Building Control plan checking experience • Full knowledge of Key Legislation is essential i.e Approved Documents, The Building Regulations 2010 (England and Wales) and The Building Act 1984 • Full Member of RICS, CIOB or CABE (or working towards membership) • Experience in working with a range of IT products (e.g. MS Office applications, Intermediate/advanced Outlook, Spreadsheets, databases etc.), document management systems and dataspace • Strong communication skills with an approachable nature • Ability to work in an organised manner, with the ability to manage multiple projects with parallel deadlines. Desirable • Competent in Commercial Plan Checking is preferred • Knowledge of the RICS Plan of works, including the design and construction stages, would be desirable. • Knowledge of Key Legislation is essential i.e. British Standards BS9991 & BS9999.
