Overview
The Production Manager is responsible for the overall coordination and performance of production operations across all three shifts. This role ensures safe, efficient, and quality-compliant manufacturing while meeting established production targets and cost objectives. The Production Manager leads and develops a team of shift supervisors and drives a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and food safety throughout the production floor.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions: Directs and supervises production supervisors on all shifts, ensuring consistent execution of safety, quality, and production standards across a 24-hour operation. Responsible for meeting established objectives pertaining to production department and controls and minimizes the shift’s overtime labor costs. Collaborates with HRBP to support hiring, onboarding, training, and workforce scheduling Coordinates with other department managers to ensure proper purchasing, processing, packaging, accounting and inventory control activities and procedures. Responsible for ensuring scheduling of production on the floor. Use modern management techniques to promote team building and to allow decision making at the lowest level. Ensures required production reporting is accurate and timely. Leads continuous improvement efforts across the production floor, leveraging Operational Excellence tools and team input to eliminate waste and drive performance Accountable for end-to-end production performance in assigned areas, including operational efficiency, product quality, and adherence to standards. Coordinates with Maintenance to support equipment reliability and preventive maintenance priorities that minimize unplanned downtime Maintains close working relationship with all departments and responds to deviations from standards immediately. Provides training, direction, development, evaluation, coaching and leadership to subordinates. Develops internal talent by modeling our growth behaviors and creating opportunities for team members to advance within the organization Maintains good employee, corporate and community relations. Ensures compliance to quality, food safety, 5S, OSHA and HACCP support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer and government standards. Strive to be a safety solutions leader by maintaining the 200% for safety mindset. Participate engagement activities, complete required safety training and aid in identifying hazards within the facility utilizing BBS and other safety programs. Ensures a disciplined and safe work environment. Reviews budgets for production departments. Performs other duties / responsibilities as required by Management. Supervisory Responsibility: Directly supervises 6 production supervisors across all three shifts in a 24-hour manufacturing operation, with indirect oversight of approximately 18-25 hourly employees per supervisor in the processing and packaging areas. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, appraising, and terminating employees with HRBP approval; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems #TMZ23
Qualifications
5-7 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment; food industry preferred. Working knowledge of scheduling, budgets, and production processes. Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a related field preferred; high school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite required, including but not limited to Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power BI. Experience with Prism and UKG preferred. Lean Six Sigma experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with team members, management, customers, and vendors. Strong people management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Working Conditions/Environment
Works in a manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, read, sit, stand, walk, climb, crouch, lift, reach, grasp, and bend. Must be able to move 40-50 pounds at a distance of 25 feet or more and stand for an 8-10 hour shift with regular breaks while performing repetitive tasks. May be required to work overtime and/or weekends as needed. The employee may be exposed to non-ambient temperatures, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors, and moving equipment. Noise levels are loud in the plant. Ear protection, eye/face protection, hair/beard nets, steel-toed/slip-resistant shoes, and gloves are required per company GMP and safety standards.
