Job Summary

Are you passionate about making a genuine difference in the lives of children with disabilities? Do you want to work in a warm, welcoming home where every child is supported to thrive, have fun, and reach their full potential?

At The Big House, a short break home in Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire, we provide specialist care for children with a significant intellectual disability and who may display risk behaviours when they are distressed or have an unmet need. They may also have some moderate physical disabilities and medical and sensory needs. As a Residential Care Worker, you will play a vital role in creating a safe and nurturing environment where children can build confidence, develop independence, and enjoy meaningful experiences away from home. You’ll work closely with families and colleagues to ensure each child’s individual needs are met with dignity, compassion and professionalism.

About The Role

As a Residential Care Worker, you will:

Build and maintain positive relationships with children and their families. Provide personal and intimate care to children, ensuring their comfort and dignity. Administer medication and carry out health care procedures Support children in engaging activities that promote fun and learning. Work collaboratively with the care team to ensure the highest standards of care. Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance your skills.

Required Skills And Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Experience in a care setting, particularly with children or individuals with disabilities. Understanding of personal care needs and health care procedures. Ability to follow care plans and guidelines accurately. Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges. Strong communication skills to interact effectively with children and families.

We are looking for someone who demonstrates:

A passion for working with children and a genuine understanding of the challenges they and their families face. Empathy and compassion towards children and their families. Patience and resilience in challenging situations. The ability to work well as part of a team, supporting colleagues and sharing knowledge. Being proactive in seeking solutions and improving care practices. A commitment to enabling children to achieve positive outcomes and providing enjoyable experiences through various activities.

Additional Information

This is a part-time role, working 24 hours a week, working 1.5 weekends out of 3 You will receive additional pay for weekend, bank holiday, and evening shifts. A full induction and ongoing training will be provided to support your development.
