Main duties of the job

As an integral member of the Harrow School Nursing service, you will be responsible for delivering the Healthy Child Programme in collaboration with the wider school health team. Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

To work in partnership with educational staff, health care professionals and other agencies to provide advice and support to children & young people, their parents and carers as required. To carry out training sessions to other professionals on relevant health or medical issues and where appropriate, assist children and young people to manage their own health conditions independently. To undertake agreed health assessments on children & young people and ensure referrals, treatments and reviews are carried out as recommended and in accordance with Trust policies and procedures. To support in the development of individualised health care plans in partnership with other health professionals, education, parents & carers & other agencies as necessary. To be responsible for identifying children & young people requiring medical follow-up planning.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

RGN [NMC Registered] / RSCN Child Branch Specialist Practitioner Community Public Health Nurse (School Nursing or Children’s Community Nursing)

Desirable criteria

Evidence of Continual Professional development Mentorship Preparation or equivalent Public Health Nursing (Children & Families) Sexual health (or equivalent) School Nurse Certificate

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience of working with children in a professional capacity Working with families who have experienced trauma Proven post nursing registration experience Working with diverse communities Evidence to support experience of audit activity

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Understanding of quality issues, the audit process and clinical governance. Knowledge of children with long term medical needs Understanding of the public health role of the school nurse Understanding of Equality & Valuing Diversity Knowledge of key documents and drivers informing school nursing practice

Skills

Essential criteria

Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills Good computer literacy skills Ability to communicate in an effective way with people from a variety of backgrounds and different ages. Ability to demonstrate an understanding of team working
