Renaissance Semiconductor Ltd (RENSEMI) is a technology-focused engineering company working on the design, implementation, and validation of advanced electronic and semiconductor-based systems. The company specialises in system-level design, hardware development, and practical engineering solutions that bridge the gap between concept, implementation, and real-world operation.
RENSEMI’s work spans analogue, digital, and mixed-signal domains, with a strong emphasis on robust system architecture, hands-on validation, and high-quality technical delivery. The company operates with a small, highly skilled engineering team and focuses on delivering technically sound, well-tested solutions for complex engineering challenges.
Location: UK (Remote) Team: Digital Design Team Employment Type: Full-time
Role Overview Renaissance Semiconductor Ltd (RENSEMI) is seeking a Senior System Design Engineer to lead the definition and technical coherence of advanced electronic and semiconductor-focused systems. This role sits at the heart of our engineering activities, shaping system architectures and guiding hardware implementation across analogue and digital domains. You will work closely with other engineers to translate high-level requirements into robust, manufacturable system designs, while balancing performance, complexity, and risk.
This is a senior technical role, ideal for an engineer who enjoys system-level thinking, technical leadership, and hands-on design oversight.
Key Responsibilities System Architecture & Design
Define system-level requirements, specifications, and performance targets. Develop and own end-to-end system architectures, including analogue, digital, and mixed-signal elements. Make and justify technical trade-offs across performance, cost, power, and reliability. Ensure designs are aligned with semiconductor, hardware, and product constraints.
Technical Leadership
Act as the senior technical authority on system design decisions. Review and guide detailed hardware and digital designs produced by other engineers. Lead technical discussions, design reviews, and architecture evaluations. Promote best practices in system-level engineering and design quality.
Cross-Functional Engineering Support
Define technical interfaces and work packages for implementation engineers. Support integration of analogue and digital hardware components. Collaborate with verification and test activities to ensure system performance is met.
Verification & Validation
Define system-level verification and validation strategies. Review test results and guide corrective actions where required. Support debugging and root-cause analysis at system level.
Documentation & IP
Produce and maintain high-quality system documentation and specifications. Contribute to internal design standards and reusable engineering assets. Support protection and capture of intellectual property.
Required Skills and Experience Education
BSc, MSc, or PhD in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Digital or Mixed-Signal Electronics, Digital Signal Processing, or equivalent practical industry experience.
Essential
Minimum BSc and 10+ years of experience Strong experience in system-level design of electronic or semiconductor-based systems. Solid understanding of both analogue and digital hardware concepts. Solid understanding of processor architectures (RISC-V) and system-on-chip (SoC) design principles, including processing cores, memory hierarchies, interconnects, and peripheral integration. Exposure to AI/ML or advanced DSP algorithm implementation on FPGA and/or ASIC is desirable. Exposure to fixed-point and floating-point implementation of DSP algorithms on FPGA and/or ASIC. Proven ability to define architectures and guide complex technical developments. Experience reviewing and approving detailed hardware designs. Excellent technical communication and documentation skills.
Desirable
Experience with mixed-signal systems, embedded hardware, or ASIC/FPGA-based designs. Background in R&D or advanced technology development environments. Familiarity with hardware verification, test strategies, and system integration.
