Underwriting Assistant – Commercial & Personal Lines

Location: Chelmsford Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 depending on experience, plus performance-related bonus and benefits At Sagic, our purpose is simple: as well as providing insurance services to the Salvation Army, we also exist to provide fair, accessible insurance to people who have often been overlooked or underserved by the market. We believe insurance should be inclusive, transparent, and built around real customer needs. The Role As we continue to grow, we are looking for an Underwriting Assistant. You will ensure that every decision is informed, accurate, and aligned with our values. You’ll support senior underwriters in assessing risk, preparing quotes, and maintaining the high standards our clients expect. Your work will directly influence the quality of our portfolio, the satisfaction of our customers, and the efficiency of our operations. Sagic is entering a significant phase of expansion, with a clear ambition to double the size of our business over the next few years. This role will be central to that journey by helping to shape underwriting strategy, expanding broker relationships, and building the capability needed to support that growth. Key Responsibilities Assist in reviewing and analysing insurance applications, supporting risk assessment and pricing decisions. Prepare and issue policy documentation, endorsements, and renewals with accuracy and attention to detail. Liaise with brokers, agents, and clients to gather necessary information and clarify underwriting requirements. Maintain and update underwriting records in our systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards. Support the development of tailored insurance solutions by researching market trends and competitor offerings. Collaborate with senior underwriters on complex cases, contributing insights and recommendations. About You Previous experience in an underwriting, insurance administration, or financial services support role. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify patterns. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a customer-first mindset. High attention to detail and organisational skills to manage multiple priorities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with insurance or CRM systems. A proactive, collaborative approach and a willingness to learn from experienced colleagues. Why Join Sagic? This is an opportunity to take an important role in a growing, purpose-driven insurer where your work has real impact, both commercially and for customers. At Sagic, we believe the way we work should reflect what we stand for. That’s why we offer a 4-day working week, supporting better work-life balance, and sustainable performance. Interested? If you’re ready to grow your career in underwriting and make a real impact at a company that values precision, integrity, and people, we’d love to hear from you.
