Role Description This is a volunteer, remote role for an Unreal Engine 5.7 Technical Artist. The role involves creating high-quality assets, optimizing game environments, crafting shader and material networks, and collaborating closely with designers and developers to bring the game world to life. This is an opportunity to work in a creative, driven, and passionate team environment.
You will ensure high-quality visuals align with real-time performance targets (FPS, memory), supporting both artistic vision and technical stability within Unreal Engine.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with artists and programmers to balance visual quality and performance
- Optimize assets, materials, and environments for real-time rendering
- Create and refine shaders and materials in Unreal Engine
- Improve pipelines, workflows, and toolsets for the art team
- Identify and resolve technical issues across rendering and asset systems
- Support areas such as VFX, lighting, rendering, or rigging (based on your strengths)
Requirements
- Experience with Unreal Engine (UE5 preferred)
- Understanding of real-time rendering and optimization techniques
- Familiarity with material/shader creation
- Ability to troubleshoot and profile performance issues
- Strong communication skills across technical and creative teams
Nice to Have
- Experience with Niagara (VFX), rigging, or advanced rendering
- Scripting knowledge (Blueprints, Python, or C++)
- Experience building tools or improving pipelines
