The Operations Manager will work alongside the Depot Manager, taking ownership of operational performance to ensure productivity, efficiency, and outstanding service across the depot. This role involves leading talent development, driving KPIs, protecting the courier network, and ensuring the operation runs safely, compliantly, and cost-effectively.
Working closely with Hubs, Trunking, and Head Office, you will play a pivotal role in shaping a high-performing, customer-obsessed culture. Responsibilities include optimising processes, managing financial controls, leading performance reviews, and succession planning to ensure sustainable operational capability.
This is a hands-on leadership position within a dynamic 24-hour operation. While the role is primarily Day shift Monday to Friday, flexibility is essential to meet business needs. Your ability to lead, motivate, and drive performance will directly impact operational results and overall depot success.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage depot operations and admin teams to deliver a high-performance, results-driven environment
- Drive productivity and cost-efficiency through effective KPI and SLA management
- Champion a culture of engagement, inclusion, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, ISO standards, O Licence regulations, WTD, and AWR
- Protect and optimise the courier network and third-party partnerships
- Oversee financial, service, and operational reporting within agreed timescales
Requirements
- Prolonged leadership experience within logistics, transport, or 3PL environments
- Strong commercial acumen with a track record of delivering KPI and SLA performance
- CPC National Certificate (or willingness to obtain) and Full UK Driving Licence
- Advanced organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work flexibly across all shifts
- Confident communicator with experience analysing management information and driving performance improvement
