Want to take real ownership of technology rather than simply manage someone elseโs roadmap? This could be the role for you. Iโm working on a high-impact Head of Engineering opportunity with an established financial services business that is investing heavily in its technology capability. This is a chance to build, shape and own the engineering function. Youโll have genuine autonomy, direct access to senior stakeholders and the freedom to influence technology, architecture, engineering standards, development and AI. And importantly, YOUโLL STILL BE CODING. This is NOT a Head of Engineering role where you spend your days in meetings managing managers.

WHAT YOUโLL OWN
- Own the firm-wide build-vs-buy strategy
- Design, build and ship software yourself
- Shape the engineering roadmap and decide what gets built, bought and improved
- Lead and technically coach development and scripting resources
- Develop junior engineers and raise the technical bar
- Own development, testing & CI/CD end-to-end
- Work closely with IT on production and technical governance
- Own relationships with key technology vendors
- Drive the Python & AI training strategy
- Introduce and raise engineering standards across the business
THE PERSON
Iโm looking for someone who is technically credible, commercially minded and still loves engineering. Someone who can walk into a business, understand what needs to change, make decisions and then roll their sleeves up and deliver it. Strong experience across:
- Python | Software Engineering | CI/CD | Cloud/DevOps | AI Experience within financial services, investment management, ETFs, ETCs, trading or capital markets would be particularly relevant.
