Experienced Groundworkers, Excavator Operatives and Working Foremen | PKB Civils
PKB Civils are growing, and we are looking to add experienced people to our teams. We have written this as one advert covering three routes in: experienced groundworker, excavator operative who gets on the ground, and working foreman. We are not asking you to pick a box. Come and talk to us, and we will work out together which level fits once we have properly understood what you have done.
Who we are looking for
Our team is loyal and our staff turnover is very low. That's not an accident, and it's the standard we recruit to. We're only interested in people with a stable career history who have given long service to their previous employers. If your CV shows you moving from job to job, this isn't the right business for you. You must have worked in commercial and industrial yards. This is the bulk of what we do and it is not something you pick up on the way.
The work
- Setting and checking levels with a rotating laser
- Drainage, including manholes, separators and attenuation tanks
- Concrete slabs, pouring and finishing
- Excavation and stoning up
- Breaking out and reinstating existing concrete slabs
- Shuttering and formwork
- Steel fixing
- Ducting
- Kerbing, edgings and flagging
- Tarmac
- Operating excavators, dumpers and rollers
- CAT scanning and working safely around live services

What we need from you
- A number of yearsโ groundworks experience
- Proven work in commercial and industrial yards
- The ability to work without being managed
- Working away from home is essential, not occasional, so you need to be set up for that
- A 7.30am site start, with yard meets earlier depending on distance
- Valid CSCS card, supervisor card preferred for foreman level
- Full driving licence preferred

CIS (self-employed)

- 28 days holiday including bank holidays

Working away, on CIS or PAYE
- 1 hourโs bonus pay for every night away
- Any hours worked after 4.30pm paid at time and a quarter

If you are an excavator operative
Our operators get on the ground when the job needs it. If you want to stay in the cab all day, this is not the role. If you are happy to graft wherever the work takes you, you will fit in here.
