Directorate / Division Overview

Monetary Policy Assessment and Strategy provides the core analytical support that helps the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) make decisions on monetary policy to meet the inflation target. The area brings together expertise in economic analysis, forecasting and policy strategy, working closely with colleagues across the Bank and the MPC Unit.

Within the area, the Economic Outlook and Current Economic Conditions divisions play a central role in assessing developments in the UK and global economy, producing analysis that supports the MPC's understanding of inflationary pressures and the outlook for growth and inflation.

We are seeking a highly motivated, organised and proactive Personal Assistant to provide high-quality support to the Head of Divisions and selected senior managers.

This is a varied and interesting role in a dynamic area of the Bank, offering exposure to senior stakeholders, divisional management activity and cross-Bank work.

The jobholder will provide a full secretarial, administrative and operational support service. They will be expected to manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement, build strong relationships across the Bank and handle sensitive information with discretion. The role would suit someone who enjoys working at pace, takes pride in delivering excellent support and is keen to improve processes and ways of working.

The successful candidate will be part of a wider PA and support team. The team is self-covering, so the jobholder will be expected to work flexibly with other PAs, provide cover during absences and contribute positively to the wider support community, including cover for more senior PA offices where required.

You would:

  • Provide proactive, high-quality PA support to the Head of Divisions and selected senior managers, acting as a trusted point of contact and using judgement when handling requests.
  • Manage complex and frequently changing diaries, resolve scheduling conflicts, prioritise competing meeting requests and ensure senior leaders have sufficient preparation time.
  • Proactively manage inboxes, monitor correspondence, highlight urgent matters, coordinate responses and ensure actions are progressed promptly.
  • Organise divisional management meetings, leadership meetings and wider staff events, including agendas, papers, minutes and action tracking.
  • Work with the Head of Divisions and management teams to keep the divisions running effectively, highlighting outstanding actions, chasing deadlines and supporting governance activity.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues at all levels, including senior internal stakeholders and external contacts.
  • Support recruitment activity, including arranging interviews, preparing interview packs, coordinating candidate communications and supporting onboarding arrangements.
  • Complete joiner, mover and leaver processes and help ensure colleagues have a positive experience when joining or moving within the division.
  • Arrange domestic and international travel, prepare itineraries, process expenses and support budget tracking or other administrative processes through the year.
  • Identify opportunities to improve, streamline or automate divisional processes, including making effective use of Microsoft 365 tools and new technologies.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider PA network, providing cover across divisions and supporting senior PA offices when required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
