The Customer Service Representative performs various customer service functions, including: greeting and assisting customers; accepting and posting payments; issuing receipts; receiving and processing applications; producing and mailing letters and notices; sorting bills; and generating reports.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Greets the public in a prompt, warm, and service-oriented manner and assures the City’s standards for customer contact and telephone protocol are met.
- Greets and directs the public; processes various applications and permits; receives various monies and payments; and provides counter assistance and telephone coverage.
- Processes mail and night drop payments.
- Receives payments from customers.
- Inputs payments, makes change, and issues receipts to customers.
- Types a variety of documents including letters, forms, memos, and statements.
- Balances the cash drawer daily.
- Counts cash and records on the balancing sheet. Totals checks, utility stubs, general receipts, and records on the balancing sheet.
- Coordinates the routine delinquent account collection program, including preparation and mailing of final notices, shuts-off and turns-on orders documenting and monitoring payment schedules, when needed.
- Makes copies and faxes of work orders.
- Researches tax information. Researches complex customer problems in a calm manner and provides feedback to supervisor.
- Performs light custodial duties.
- Accepts and posts tax payments.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. - High School diploma or GED and six months of experience required; or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Ability to use personal computers and general office equipment.
- Must have strong skills in communicating and presenting a positive, professional image of City services.
- Must have knowledge of cash collections procedures and cashier duties.
- Ability to effectively present information, explain utility rate structures, rate changes, and other related City procedures to a variety of individuals in such a way as to maintain an atmosphere conducive to the conduct of business.
- Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations with error free accuracy.
- Ability to develop computer spreadsheets using complex formulas and a variety of financial and other mathematical functions.
- Ability to work within established guidelines with little direct supervision.
- Ability to deal with the general public in all types of situations arising during work activities.
- Knowledge of telephone techniques and etiquette.
- Ability to use interpersonal skills with tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Basic skills in accounting and computer data entry.
- Ability to count cash effectively and efficiently.
- Demonstrated record of good work attendance.
- Must be bondable.

Miscellaneous Information
Working Conditions and Physical Abilities Work is performed in office settings. Hand-eye coordination and fine manipulation skills are necessary to operate computers and various office machines. This position also requires good listening skills and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
