First Line IT Support Engineer
£27,000 starting salary - Office-based initially, then hybrid
We’re looking for a First Line IT Support Engineer to join the VLAN team. You’ll be one of the first people our users speak to when something isn’t working.
You won’t be thrown in at the deep end and told to figure it out yourself. You’ll get plenty of training and support from the rest of the guys. We’ve all been the person who didn’t know what the hell they were doing once upon a time.
What you'll be doing
- Handling first-line support tickets for our VTAB users. (Check our website what this is)
- Fixing everyday IT issues across Windows, macOS and Microsoft 365.
- Helping users with their devices, email, backups and security.
- Keeping tickets updated, organised and easy for the rest of the team to follow.
- Knowing when something needs escalating.
- Learning from the more complicated issues you come across.
- Talking to our users without making them feel stupid for asking an IT question. Please don’t use pointless jargon for the sake of it.

What we're looking for
- Has some experience in first-line IT support or a helpdesk environment
- Has experience with Windows and Microsoft 365
- Has some experience with macOS
- Is chilled, friendly and good with people
- Can explain an IT problem without drowning someone in technical jargon
- Is happy to ask questions when they don't know something. Don’t bullshit.
- Wants to learn and actually get better at what they do
- If you have server or networking experience, is even better.
Most importantly, we want someone who fits in with the VLAN way of doing things. You’ll work with a team that likes a good laugh, looks after each other and genuinely wants to help our clients.
The first few months
This role will be office-based initially. That's not because we don't trust you to work from home. It's because we want you to properly understand our systems, our clients and how we do things before you are left on your own.
You'll spend time with the team, learn our processes, get comfortable with the systems and build up your confidence. Once you're comfortable and confident, you'll have the flexibility to choose when you work from home and when you come into the office.
