Junior Clinical Fellow in Psychiatry
This is a fixed-term Junior Clinical Fellow post in Psychiatry, based at Bethlem Royal Hospital within South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The role involves rotating between Croydon Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and Croydon Home Treatment Team, with six months spent in each service. It is a full-time post consisting of 10 programmed activities, including 8 Direct Clinical Care sessions and 2 Supporting Professional Activities sessions, with one day per week dedicated to non-clinical psychiatry-related work such as audit, quality improvement, research, teaching or other professional development. The post holder will contribute to clinical care, join the on-call rota, and be supported to develop their skills and interests within psychiatry.
About the Role
The main duties of the job are to support the clinical care of patients across Croydon PICU and the Croydon Home Treatment Team. This includes reviewing and managing inpatients or the team caseload, contributing to the day-to-day workload of the service, attending ward rounds, team meetings and CPA meetings, carrying out risk assessments and developing risk management plans, formulating care plans, and supporting patients’ physical health through examinations and investigations where appropriate. The post holder will also liaise with GPs, social services, voluntary sector organisations and other professionals inside and outside SLaM, attend external patient meetings, make safeguarding referrals when needed, and maintain clear clinical records, including reports, letters, discharge notifications and summaries. In addition, the role includes participation in audit, quality improvement, research, teaching, clinical governance, reflective practice and relevant team or Trust meetings.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
