The Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula is seeking 2 dependable and safety-minded individuals to join our Public Works team as Waste Management Operators. If you enjoy working independently, operating vehicles and equipment, being outdoors, and providing an important service to your community, we want to hear from you.

About The Position

The Waste Management Operator is responsible for operating municipal waste collection vehicles and related equipment, completing assigned residential, commercial and municipal collection routes, and conducting daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. The position also includes transporting collected materials to approved disposal or processing facilities, identifying and documenting non-compliant waste materials, using route-management systems, GPS, tablets and other onboard technology, and maintaining accurate route, vehicle and collection records. The Waste Management Operator is expected to provide courteous and professional service to residents and customers while supporting other Public Works and municipal operations as required.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate will possess a valid Ontario Class DZ driver’s licence in good standing and a satisfactory driver’s abstract. Previous experience operating commercial vehicles, heavy equipment, waste collection vehicles or similar equipment is required, along with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong safety awareness and sound judgement, effective communication and customer-service skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and the physical ability to safely perform the requirements of the position.

Working With Us

This is a full-time unionized position within the Municipality's Public Works Department. Compensation is in accordance with the OPSEU Local 266 Collective Agreement – Public Works Level 1.

The position primarily involves outdoor work and commercial vehicle operation throughout Northern Bruce Peninsula. Candidates must be prepared to work in varying weather and road conditions. Early mornings, weekends, holidays, overtime, emergency call-ins and adjusted schedules may occasionally be required.
