The Africa Health Collaborative offers a scholarship for the Doctor of Public Health program at the University of Toronto, covering all expenses. Applicants from Sub-Saharan Africa must demonstrate leadership and commitment to health advancement.

About
This comprehensive scholarship offers full financial support for tuition, travel expenses, housing, food, books, and other expenses for the duration of the professional program. In addition to financial support, scholars will be provided with a comprehensive support network to ensure academic success. Furthermore, each scholar will have the opportunity to engage in orientation sessions, which will ensure that they are fully engaged from the very beginning of their graduate studies, and which will ease their transition to life as a graduate student in the city of Toronto, and to their preparedness for return to their home country.
Graduate Program Focus
For the 2026–2027 academic year, up to three scholarships will be awarded for the Doctor of Public Health program at the University of Toronto. Applicants are encouraged to reflect on their motivations for pursuing the field, their long-term career goals, and their dedication to advancing Africa’s health systems. Such elements are central to the selection process, as the program prioritises candidates committed to transforming health outcomes on the continent.
Eligibility
- Be a citizen and currently residing in a Sub-Saharan African country.
- Have graduated from a partner institution of the Africa Health Collaborative and have not yet started graduate studies at the doctoral level.
- Demonstrate academic excellence and leadership qualities during his/her undergraduate and master’s years.
- Be academically admissible to the sponsored graduate program listed above.
- Demonstrate a desire and commitment to return home for the last two years of the program to contribute to the ongoing economic growth and social development in Africa.

How To Apply
Step One: Requires applicants to consult the Doctor of Public Health program admission requirements. Meeting these academic standards is essential before moving forward.
Step Two: Involves registering for and attending one of three mandatory virtual information sessions. Attendance at one session is compulsory, as this provides essential guidance on eligibility and application requirements. An optional Q&A session will also be available for those seeking additional clarification.
Step Three: Is the submission of the Mastercard Foundation Doctoral Scholarship application. The application link will be provided during the information sessions, and completed forms must be submitted by October 10, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. EST (Toronto time). Notifications of shortlisted candidates will be issued by November 1, 2025.
Step Four: Requires shortlisted applicants to formally apply to the Doctor of Public Health program at the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health. This application, due by November 22, 2025, will include submission of additional documents as specified by the department.
