I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Programme Description
LionTree offers a 10-week summer internship within our investment banking advisory team in London, for penultimate year university students. Our London office focuses exclusively on dealmaking across media, technology and telecommunications (TMT). As a summer intern, you will be fully immersed in the day-to-day work of our deal teams, gaining direct exposure to some of the most active dealmaking in the sector, with the direct access to senior bankers that comes from being part of a focused team led by senior professionals. The programme is our primary pipeline for the 2028 Investment Banking Analyst intake: strong performers will be considered for a full-time Analyst offer, joining the following summer after graduation. Each intern is paired with a peer buddy and a senior banker mentor for the duration of the programme, supporting both day to day integration and longer-term career development.
Programme Outline
Throughout the ten weeks, you will:
- Support LionTree's TMT deal teams on live sell side and buy side advisory mandates and new business pitches, working under the direct supervision of Analysts and Associates
- Build a foundation in financial modelling, valuation and transaction analysis through third party training and day-to-day technical teach ins covering valuation basics, transaction processes and TMT sector themes
- Assist in preparing pitch materials, management presentations and other deal execution materials, learning the firm's quality bar for materials that are ready to go in front of clients
- Conduct industry, company and market research to support live deal execution
- Support due diligence workstreams alongside deal teams
- Apply what you have learned to a final project, presented to the team in Week 10
