The Opportunity
As a Graduate Public Health Engineer, you'll contribute to the design and delivery of water and drainage systems that help buildings operate safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
Working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams, you'll gain exposure to projects across a range of sectors and develop a strong foundation in public health engineering principles. Through hands-on project experience, mentoring, and structured development opportunities, you'll build the skills and confidence needed to grow your career and make a meaningful impact.
What You'll Do
As part of our Building Services team, you will:
- Support the design of public health engineering systems for a variety of building and infrastructure projects.
- Assist with the design and specification of domestic water services, hot and cold-water systems, sanitary drainage, rainwater harvesting, greywater reuse, foul and surface water drainage systems.
- Contribute to water conservation and sustainability strategies that help clients reduce environmental impact and improve resource efficiency.
- Support calculations, technical reports, drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
- Use digital design tools and BIM technologies to develop coordinated engineering solutions.
- Work collaboratively with mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, sustainability, and digital engineering specialists.
- Participate in project meetings, site visits, surveys, and inspections to develop practical engineering experience.
- Help identify innovative solutions that improve system performance, resilience, and environmental outcomes.
- Assist in ensuring designs comply with relevant regulations, industry standards, and best practice guidance.

Candidate Specification

To be eligible for this opportunity, you will have less than 12 months’ relevant experience (excluding placements) and have a bachelors degree (obtained no earlier than 2025) or expected to achieve one of the following degree disciplines:
- Building Services Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Architectural Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Environmental Engineering
- Sustainable Building Design
- Water Engineering
- Or a related discipline
This opportunity will require you to be eligible to achieve security clearance. Security clearance is dictated by the types of projects we work on and normally requires you to be a UK British national or lived in the UK for five years or more.
In your application, you should aim to demonstrate your genuine interest in both the opportunity and in joining Mott MacDonald. You can do this by highlighting any relevant experience or interests - such as modules you've studied, previous work experience, or any research you've undertaken about our company, values, and projects.

UK Immigration
Mott MacDonald Ltd. are not currently offering sponsorship to candidates under the Skilled Worker visa route in the UK. This decision is as a consequence of the changes made to the Skilled Worker route by the UK Government in April 2024.
Our ethos is to develop, train and retain our graduates and therefore we are looking for a long-term relationship with our graduates. For this reason, we cannot accept applications from candidates who would be working under the Graduate visa route or other time-limited visas, (irrespective of visa duration), due to their temporary nature and the requirement for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route in future.
