Description

Oxford Economics is the world's foremost independent economic advisory firm. We have a fantastic opportunity for hard-working economics/finance students to join our team in the United Kingdom on a one-year industrial placement. Positions are available on the following teams: Macro Forecasting & Analysis, Cities & Regions, Global Industry, Scenarios & Macro Modelling, Data Team, Macro Consulting, Economic Impact, Economic Footprint & Sustainability, Tourism Economics, and Transport/Construction.

We offer the chance for successful candidates to gain experience within areas related to their degree subject. Our students will work closely with our experienced team of economists, undertake responsibilities for analysis, country forecasting, and econometrics, and achieve in-depth practical knowledge related to their degree.

Placement Positions Are Available In The Business Areas Including

  • Macro Forecasting & Analysis: Produces forecasts for GDP, inflation, interest rates, among others, for more than 200 countries, updated twice a month. It also produces written analysis on economic data and policy news.
  • Cities & Regions: Covers forecasting services for over 8,000 cities and regions, providing data, forecasts, and analysis for each location.
  • Global Industry: Comprises economists focused on sectors like energy generation and renewables, contributing to monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Scenarios & Macro Modelling: Focuses on designing scenarios and building macroeconomic models that help clients assess the impact of global risks.
  • Transport and Construction: Provides economic analysis, forecasting, and advisory support across the transport, infrastructure, and construction sectors.
  • Data Team: Supports the development, management, and delivery of economic data that underpins Oxford Economics’ forecasting and research.

Training Opportunities

Placement Students have diverse training opportunities including formal sessions to support professional and personal development goals. Training includes using the Oxford Economics Global Economic Model, Haver, Power BI, Tableau, econometrics applications, data tools, and writing skills.

The Working Environment

Oxford Economics offers an informal but hard-working culture with a hybrid working model—three days in the office and two days from home. Employees are encouraged to volunteer in the community and enjoy regular social events.

Requirements

Oxford Economics’ Industrial Placement program is for high-achieving University students studying economics who want to apply their understanding of economics to real-world issues. Candidates should have a logical approach to economic arguments, strong analytical skills, and the ability to meet deadlines under their own initiative.

Applicants Should Meet The Following Requirements

  • Studying Economics or a related degree
  • Able to undertake a 1-year industrial placement working full time
  • Expected grade of 2:1 or above
  • Experience with economic data and analysis
  • Strong knowledge of Excel
  • Experience with data manipulation using software such as Access/Stata/Eviews/R/Python is a plus
