About the Role
The Prison Policy Directorate is recruiting for a Senior Policy Advisor in the Long-Term Prison Estate Policy. This role is open to current civil servants on level transfer and suitable candidates on promotion.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing policy advice on future estate size, shape, and design.
- Assessing the implications of future estate options for capacity, safety, decency, maintenance, resilience, changing prisoner cohorts, and operational deliverability.
- Working closely with HMPPS and project delivery colleagues to provide policy sponsorship for build and maintenance priorities.
- Supporting long-term capital investment planning with analysis, finance, and commercial colleagues.
- Contributing to senior, ministerial, HMT, Spending Review, and OGD engagement.
- Supporting governance and delivery management for the Long-Term Estates Strategy.

Essential Experience
- Experience developing evidenced-based policy at pace.
- Experience working across organizational and functional boundaries.
- Confident in drafting and briefing.
- Confident driving forward work and operating independently.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working in prison / criminal justice-related policy.
